Ice Fishing Lake Winnipeg 2013

Lake Winnipeg Ice fishing season is well under way here in Manitoba and I can’t remember being this excited about an ice fishing season. After a few years of heavy floods, creating high levels, dirty water and a tough bite the walleye are back to their usual haunts ready to be caught. This fall we had one of the best Red River fall walleye runs in recent memory and that has translated to an excellent early ice walleye bite on the Red River from EMO down to Lockport, making this Red River walleye guide and his clients happy boys and setting up a great Lake Winnipeg ice fishing season.

Lake Winnipeg ice fishing has been just as good if not better. With 20+ inches of ice on Lake Winnipeg, trucks have been exploring all over and although it has been safe for the most part a few large ridges have formed along with with jagged ice patches creating some trouble spots  Experience and familiarity with big Lake Winnipeg goes along way.

The walleye bite on lake Winnipeg has been great with both big fish and good numbers being caught. Limits of eaters have been fairly easy to come by in the mornings with trophy walleye making regular appearances. I am expecting a fantastic year guiding on lake Winnipeg and the  busy month of March is already booking.
